Hernias
Hernias can occur in both men and women regardless of age and do not get better with time, nor do they go away on their own. They are caused by a weakening of the internal layers of the abdominal wall resulting in a bulge or tear. They are usually easy to recognize as they commonly bulge under the skin and cause pain. Surgical approaches vary but traditionally a single long incision is made at the area and the bulge is pushed back into place. The abdominal wall is then reinforced using sutures, or stitching, bringing the edges of the healthy abdominal wall together.
